Yes, censorship is bad, but on occasions it is necessary to enhance the quality of text.

by prinses » Thu Dec 20, 2007 11:40 pm

You just need enough eyes to keep watching the forums so it doesnt go bad.
And it`s good that you never noticed it much but it happens enough and shouldnt be done by just 1 person all the time :)

by Kati » Thu Dec 20, 2007 11:12 pm

It's not like we need moderators. How much have you changed/deleted since I joined this forum FJ? Not much. Most of the members know what to post and not.

My two cents. But hey, enjoy your moderator rights guys! (=

In terms of responsibilities for Moderators I'm going to keep it quite simple. Tried to make a more complete post explaining the role but it really is just common sense and I ended up just listing the forums features ;)

***
Responsibilities
  • Enforcing Forum Rules
  • Tidying posts and polls. Correcting them if absolutely necessary. Leaving a note on the message to briefly say why the change was required.
  • Moving posts to more appropriate forums and making important posts into announcements or Sticky's.
  • Flagging up posts containing information that should be added to the Wiki.
  • Saving and uploading content (pictures, files) by users that are worth keeping and should be permanently stored on our server. This means unique content to the TNGC not content that is available elsewhere.
  • Deleting spam and inappropriate materials
Please take care when you delete content. Only delete when absolutely necessary. Delete, lock, move, edit where possible. Moderating should have as little an impact as possible.

For now I'll accept Lews, Theo, Dismus and Dark as the new moderating Team. Thanks guys, will change your account when I upgrade the forum software :)

by Natedawgg » Thu Dec 20, 2007 5:57 pm

god just read my post and it made no sense dam me being so tired lol. i said i dont mind helping out on the moderator side u prolly worried about ne eagerness of ban and kick buttons lol but ive learnt my lesson from that when i was shaman cl in nemetos. i still check the forums every 10 mins or so when im online so im pretty forum active too

by Firejack » Thu Dec 20, 2007 5:42 pm

Seems whoever deletes a post it appear in the moderators log. Neato :)

by Firejack » Thu Dec 20, 2007 5:28 pm

Ah ha yes. Got to test if its just moderators deleting posts which shows up in the log. Would be nice to know when users have done it also.

by Conri » Thu Dec 20, 2007 5:19 pm

I've moderated before - and as such i would be happy to do it again. I'm hoping the whole 'phantom disappearing posts' has been solved by Phpbb 3 - because i was kinda getting annoyed at the whole "omg who deleted what" threads (When, to be honest, i suspect 75% of the time the person has either forgotten to post, deleted their own post etc etc)

That said - i'm off to argentina mid-march, so after then you would have to replace me.

by Firejack » Thu Dec 20, 2007 4:41 pm

One cool thing about the new version of phpBB is you can leave a reason why you edited a post.

I'll update the Moderator guidelines in a bit.

by Alastriona » Thu Dec 20, 2007 4:12 pm

I'm up for administration or moderation tasks. Got some experience with administrating and moderating PHPBB boards.

I'm not one to quickly delete or ban. If you plan on assigning new moderators/admins I suggest we set some rules/guidelines for it. Things like always having to leave a note when you edit someone elses post stating why his post was changed and stuff like that.
