Community Nights

Post by Firejack » Wed Sep 06, 2006 10:24 pm

Think its about time we came up with a formal idea on what these nights should involved and how we get them up and running.
As the Planetside event showed last month people are really interested in attending organised events within the TNGC that take them to other games and give them the chance to play with others in the community.
We really need to pickup on the idea that we are a community. Its a little concerning that people don't identify themselves as part of the community. Only members of the particular TNGC division for the game they are playing. Really annoying to think if a division becomes inactive as a game dies we loose lots of members

Sooo community nights. I'm thinking if we arrange something once a week. Either a special event in a game which a particular division plays that we can all get involved in or some random game we invade for the night.

This week we have another PlanetSide event on Friday.
Next week we could do a CounterStrike event if Straz could set it up.
Then maybe a Enemy Territory event if Dismus can organise that for the week after next?

Others thoughts... ideas??

So long as stuff is either free or has a free demo available, the sky's the limit I guess.

Events for MMOs such as PlanetSide need to be announced with a nice long lead-time to give folks chance to download the generally huge clients.

Counterstrike is a fair bet because its simple and most folks will have Halflife2.

WolfET is totally free - perfect.

Once up and running, division leaders should propogandize these events a bit over in-game methods or TS since large amounts of our members never actually visit the website/forum.

This may seem like a lazy reply, but I agree exactly with what Alli said.

Ingame advertising of events is deffinately the key to succesful community interaction.

as long as its free, im willing to play it :)
though most 1st person shooters make me ill (motion sickness) ps showed me i can do some of it, didnt really notice much while playing that.
so ill try anything out, just dont expect me to do good in shooters or i might bail out cause i cant cope with it..

anyways lets make a list of games and let the dling/gaming commence ;)

Do you work for Massive or EA or something? :P

As the rest said: As long as it is free. Once a week may be a bit much though. People quickly tire of that as our previous "event night" thingie showed. Interesting for the first few weeks, then it starts to die off.

Make it a monthly event and announce it BIG.

i might be a cheap bastard, but if it's free im in. I loved the PS event, because it really gives you the chance to play with the other ppl you see on the forum, and some of who you have no idea that they existed (like ironivan ^^ ).

PS. how about a Baldur's gate Multiplayer game? =P , Me and Boo are ready for action!

[edit] i agrea with the 1 poster above me and the 2 below me :O

well... i think its is most certainly a good idea, but as aveox says, it might become too casual or too "much" even, personly i know with my self, i dont have the time or the energy to try a new game every week. Another thing is that some games have a huge learning cure as it is in case of EVE-online where you cant just jump into action within the first hour or 2. So once a month is a good idea, and then maybe even give it some time for preparation/practice.

Agreeing with Ave here. There's only so much time that folks will be willing to spend away from their video-game-addiction-of-choice. Asking them to take a break from it one evening it a week is probably expecting a lot. Once a month should keep everyone happy and help it feel more like an *EVENT* than a regular incursion into their level-grinding time ;-)

Nay! Minsc is imo the best character that has ever existed in any RPG game! He is as well strong/usefull and funnier that all others. And he has some nice hidden stuff =P

*anyway back to topic, the WolfET sounds nice
