When that happens pink snuggely baby pig that was hiding in their motherboard will come out and stick a stinger missile up a place where the sun doesn't shine and set em off to the moon where they can find refuge in a chineese bot camp.

Or they will get a message they don't have autharisation to post a link. (just a guess?)

you choose :P

alli seems to have fixed this problem. though not much of a suprise to me that it took a bot to defeat a bot ;)

next problem is how to stop them registering, but i think were all a bit stumped on that. anyone got any bright ideas?

how about just delete em manually? Or does it take up that much time to terminate an account?

i got a idea crasp why not make a question part on sign ups like :-

What does TNGC mean?

then the person types in terra nova gaming community

ppl will no to do this by reading a post on forums on the guiding them on the sign up to forum process

if a bot tries to sign up he may be unable to me doubting that they be bothered looking at the official way to signup and trying to register but cant because they dont no the questions answer

Yeh, its a good idea Bere, I've been considering that type of thing, and it might be worth a go. I am a little hesitant to add anything to the registration process that might make real potential members have to jump through extra hoops to sign up.

The ideal situation would be one that means nothing is different at all if you really are a genuine user signing up or posting. A solution that only pounces on spammers would be best.

Gotta also remember that not all of the spammers are actually bots, many are actually poor fools getting paid a few cents per post to run around the internet dropping spam on people's forums. If we make the question/answer easy, then it won't put off the spammers - if we make it too hard, we risk making life difficult for potential members.

Have some other ideas that I'm experimenting with at the mo, I won't post 'em here since we don't want to tell the spammers how it all works eh?

BTW, I did ask the spam-kill-bot what he thought, and he just said "Destroy All Humans! Rawr!"... so no help there ;-)

well adding one of those "Here is a code (something like KH50J2) and fill it in the blank spot" might filter out bots. And as for those few pityfull fools that remain, a simple question like, where does TNGC stand for or Why do you want to join? should be some troublesome effort they might not be willing to take. As for serious people, such questions should be no problem, and if they are, well, needless to say if you can't answer such a simple question......

there is already a "type the distorted code" filter in the registration process, but as alli said even if it does catch out bot registrations, there are some poor folks who work typing in things like that to circumvent the security, which makes the entire process that much harder.

The main PHPBB-spamming bots that are about can all use optical character recognition to read the wobbly-numbers type codes too.

Just check the adress from where the IP is coming (if u can do that) and then u send me some cash and that adresss and problems fixed.

And we should maybe check some others forums that have problems with spambots what they have done to fix them maybe?
Do i have to write something here?
