Teamspeak Vs Mumble

Post by Firejack » Sun Sep 02, 2012 10:15 am

We only have a few months left on Alastriona's Mumble server. A lot of talk has revolved around the discussion of moving back to Teamspeak lately. I think we need to discuss the benefits of each. Then make a decision.

At this point we have use of the Scan Teamspeak server. I'm in favour of moving there.

Mumble has good sound quality. Thats about all the positives I have for it.
The certificate system is confusing to most people.
The permission system is odd and hard to maintain.
Low Latency communication sounded great but no one configures their mic for the benefit it seems.
Likewise Positional Audio seems a neat idea but then you end up with faded sound or the sound coming from one direction and its not as clear.
The actual client isn't easy for people to understand how to use. Strange layout like the "Advanced" checkbox in the settings that reveals all the settings is frustrating for users.
The Mumble overlay is great.. but only supports DX9.

Now I'm by no means an expert on Teamspeak 3 as I've only used it a little. Positives so far
Good sound
Clear menu's
Easy setup
Much wider community support, plugins for BF3 etc
Channel Commander

I agree, mumble is quite messy and difficult at times. In fact. I could try and set up a TS3 server if its free like mumble?

They're both good, pick whichever is cheapest.

http://support.teamspeakusa.com/index.p ... ts3-server

I would still be up for hosting on my htpc which is on 24/7. next month they are upgrading me to 60/6 (yay free speed increases) so that should be fine for hosting the sizes we use.
Though since it does stay reliant on my connection a 2nd backup would be a good idea when mine fails.
