i was under the impressions you first had to 'accept' people before i can add them to the usergroup... or can i do that right after they register?

Ok process is;

User registers - account not activated or visible on the forums to other members.
I activate account manually - user able to login and account visible to other users.
You add user to Nemetos group - user gets access to all member areas of the forums.
