Economy guide

Ports scattered over the world have one or more resources available for harvesting. To gather those resources you need to build a structure to produce those resources. A structure takes lot space from you, you have 10 lots at your disposal (per server) and nearly all buildings require 1 lot (larger shipyards take up to 3 lots as an exception). Also you will need to have a warehouse at that location, warehouses don`t take up lots but their cost to setup increases significantly so try to stick with 1-3 places to get your resources. Not every building needs resources in that port though. In every port that you have a warehouse in you can build structures that refine those items. (it`s adviseable to refine in the same port as the raw materials though since it will be less to haul away from there).

To let those buildings produce the stuff you want you need labor and dubloons (they aint slaves so they want wages). Wages are affected by taxes, so even though with the right standing you can produce in enemy ports, taxes for you there will be quite high and less profitable to produce the goods. Labor is equal to realtime, the maximum amount you can have stored per building is 3 days worth of labor.

Furthermore, goods generally get sold in auctionhouses instead of personal trades. The economy is pure player made, so deman/supply decides the price alot. The best places to trade are the ports near deep water ports (large shipyards need that) so it`s best to sell there.
